MAC Face & Body Foundation C4 Review

Over summer (yes–a very late post) I was looking for a foundation that was  light and ultra moisturizing! I have DRY skin.  Zoe (blog-, one of my favorite beauty guru’s raved about MAC face & body foundation and I was hooked!  A dewy, water-based, water-resistent formula—what could be better for summer! I love that Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation that is also water-based and light on the skin (review here). MAC descripes Face & Body as, “A comfortable, lightweight fluid foundation with a unique blend of emollients that delivers low-to-medium buildable coverage and a natural satin finish. Moisturizing, long-wearing formula glides onto face and body providing stay-true colour.”
MAC Face & Body Foundation C4 Review

MAC Face & Body Foundation C4
MAC Face & Body Foundation MAC Foundation
Face & Body comes in 12 different shades. You can purchase a 50ml bottle for $27 (normal foundations come at about 30ml–this is A LOT of product) or 120ml bottle for $35. I have C4, normally a NC30 in summer, NC20 in winter.
Packaging: A small plastic bottle with a screw on black cap. Unlike  most other MAC foundations, the bottle is plastic instead of glass making it much more durable and light weight (great for traveling). No pump just a hole that I don’t have any problems with, you simply squeeze and the product comes out.
Application: I’ve used my Beauty Blender, Real Techniques Stippling Brush, and Sigma F80 Flat Kabuki to apply. For me the Sigma F80 brush applies the foundation best. Using a stippling motion the foundation blends effortlessly.
Coverage: Face & Body is a water-based formula so its not surprising that the consistency of the foundation is very runny. It spreads easily, blends with a few strokes absorbing into the skin leaving a satiny dewy finish. The coverage is sheer to medium natural coverage, but it can be layered and built up. This foundation is very light weight on the skin and looks natural ‘my skin but WAY better’. It does not sit in pores or imperfections. It photographs beautifully unlike majority of the other MAC foundations. If I had any blemishes I would need to conceal them.
Longevity:  It is long wearing, there is no patchiness or oiliness (for my dry skin). I’ve worn it for about 9-10 hours with excellent results. With combination-oily skin you may not like this foundation, I’d recommend setting with a matte powder to decrease chances of getting shiny. If you get dry during the winter months this may be a good foundation for you.
Overall, geez no wonder this product is carried by so many makeup artist! If you love the natural, no-makeup look on your skin, MAC Face & Body would be perfect for you! It is a sheer foundation, light-weight that gives a very lovely, satiny finish to the skin and photographs great. It may not hide blemishes/spots/pigmentation so concealer is a must with this foundation. It is moisturizing but non-greasy and wears the entire day without getting patchy. It has no SPF, but thats what I look for in a foundation- evidenced based practice says ‘that actual SPF they achieve is approximately 1/3 of the labeled value.'(via Leslie Baumann, Medical Doctor and, board-certified dermatologist) Meaning your not really getting protection through your foundation– so for me the ghost white cast foundations with SPF are not worth it. My dermatologist told me you would have to use the entire bottle of foundation in one application on bare skin (no moisturizer, primer, ect beforehand) to actually get the SPF20 or whatever your foundation claims its SPF is—so its very important to protect your skin with sunscreens prior to foundation application. Okay… I got side track haha anyways I recommend this foundation!
